FAQs

Q1: How safe is UV emitted by a UV germicidal lamp?

Protect your eyes and skin from direct exposure to UV. Over exposure to UV-C can result in result in transient conjunctival irritation (photoconjungtivitis) and skin irritation (erythema), which will disappear within a 24-48 hour period without lasting biological damage.

Q2: How can UV germicidal lamp be used for air disinfection if it is not safe to view directly:

The UV lamp should not be viewed directly by naked eyes. Just like the water irradiated by UV is safe for human consumption, air too gets disinfected and is safe for humans. The lamps should be such mounted in air disinfection systems that these are not viewed directly when lit. These could be used in ducts or in totally enclosed fittings, or facing away from the humans towards walls or ceiling. In the last case care should be taken that surface finish of wall or ceiling is such which does not reflect UV.

Q3: What type of glass is used to surround a UV germicidal lamp?.

Except quartz glass, all other glasses do not transmit UV emitted by a UV germicidal lamp. A jacket made out of quartz glass tubing only is recommended.
